Hi Ho....Hi Ho...it's off to work I go...

I had a bit of a shock to the system on Monday as I had to go to work! After a long journey in.....well, a 6 minute walk I made it in on time for an 8.45 start. The first two days have been really good and mostly just covering induction stuff - lots of forms to fill in, new processes and systems to learn....and of course I was given my laptop!

Everyone is very friendly and happy to help which is nice. There are a couple of projects for me on the immediate horizon both of which are in Melbourne which is good!

Caroline and the boys have been sorting out items for the new house to tide us over until our container arrives in mid October. We had a trip to Ikea last night which was exactly the same as the UK including prices. Caroline has also found an Aldi and her new favourite shop is KMart - lots of bargains.....including 4 bottles of wine for $20 :-)

The school situation is still up in the air at the moment. Whilst the boys all have places at Mordialloc High School (which is 10 minutes walk from our new house) they would ideally like to go to the school in Brighton. At the moment it is not 100% clear if this is possible but we hope to find out soon. There are lots of things to consider such as travel time, style of teaching, facilities as well as academic results of course...

On Sunday we move into our new house so we will provide some more updates soon!!

  1. Glad to hear work has started at last!!Don't get too tired by the commute this week. Can't believe there's an Aldi in Melbourne! Sounds very exciting sorting out the stuff for moving in. had a look at both schools on the internet. The local one looked friendlier from the website but you need to go with your gut reaction and where the boys would feel happier.
No help there then!! My skype is now working on my computer so maybe have chat at wkd. Love Sue xxxx

  2. Well done Chris for coping with that long journey to work! Great to hear that Caroline is getting used to shopping in Australia, such a trial obviously, but got to be done! Cant believe they have Aldi in Oz but I know this will make Caroline's day and also that she has found cheap alcohol, not that Caroline likes her wine that much!! Good luck with the move to your new house on Sunday, very exciting and bet you cant wait to move in. Jess had a great first day back at school, Ems first day at college was not so brilliant! She was 'Billy no mates' and was placed in a temporary tutor as problem with enrolment. Not a great start but hopefully it will improve quickly. She really enjoyed the football academy after college and finally got home at 7.15 pm, absolutely shattered! Hope you have got schools sorted for the boys, it must be daunting having to start new school but at least they will have each other at the same school - Ems has no-one!! Take care, Lisa xx

  3. Glad your induction is going well.

Returning to UK has been a shock after 5 weeks off - work last week wholely unenjoyable but this week is getting a bit easier - soon holiday will be but a faint memory.

Oh for the excitement of settling into a new country!

    Good luck!
